Violet "Vi" Ayres

Violet Marie Ayres, also known as Vi, passed away on December 19, 2023, at Mercy Medical Center, at the age of 82, in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born to Marvin and Cora Fisher on December 24, 1940.

Vi had a fulfilling career as a Home Daycare provider for over 25 years, where she dedicated her time and love to caring for children. She had a nurturing spirit and created a warm and loving environment for all the children under her care.

In her free time, Vi enjoyed going garage selling with her daughter Pam and finding hidden treasures. She had a keen eye for spotting unique items and loved the thrill of finding a good deal. However, her greatest joy in life came from spending time with her grandbabies. She cherished every moment with them, creating lifelong memories and showering them with love.

Vi is survived by her son, Jerry Shelton, and her daughters, Pamela Mckeown and Sharon (Rod) Lossner. She is also survived by her brothers, Joe (Jan) Hollingsworth, and Bill (Dottie) Fisher, as well as her grandchildren, Jr (Tricia) Mckeown, Sommer (Tommy) Thompson, Miranda (Daryl) Mckeown, Justin (Morgan) Lossner, Nathan (Ashley) Lossner, and Blake (Madisen) Lossner. Vi was also blessed with several great-grandchildren: Reid, Amora, Ava, Caitlin, Tommy Jr. Camden, Taylor, Afton, Shae, Hadley, Liam, Eden, Knox, and Romie.

Vi was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sam, her son Tim, son-in-law Rick, her mother Cora, her brother Ricky her sisters Cheryl and Barb, her aunt Lola, and her great-grandchildren, Chad, and Abigail.

The family will greet friends Wednesday, December 27, 2023 beginning at 10 a.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street with the funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m. Vi will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
