Vanh Thongmany
June 16, 1937 — February 24, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Vanh Thongmany, born on June 16, 1937, in Kenethao, Laos to Konekheo and Doung Keomany. Vanh was the middle child among five siblings and left a mark on everyone he encountered.
Vanh is survived by his former spouse, Soth Senephansiri, and his 12 children; Somphoth, Sompheth, Somdeth, Sombath, Khamla, Ratsmy, Chansy, Nye, Anne, Jimmy, and his adopted son, Somneuk. He joins his beloved son, Tony, in heaven, leaving behind a legacy of 19 cherished grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
In Laos, Vanh was a professional photographer, traveling across the regions to capture moments of special occasions such as weddings, christenings, and funerals. His patient demeanor, combined with a knack for making jokes, brought laughter and warmth to those around him.
Vanh’s love for his homeland, Laos, was a constant source of joy and treasured memories. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness, which touched the lives of many. Vanh’s spirit lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, March 2, 2025 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines at 2:00 p.m. Graveside service to take place the following day, Monday, March 3, 2025 at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Avenue in Des Moines at 1:30 p.m.
