Vera Mae Richardson

Vera Mae Richardson, age 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 3, 2025, with her husband by her side.

Vera was born August 27, 1944, in Grinnell, Iowa to Ernest and Claribel (Kinney) Quick. She raised her family in Altoona, lived in Oklahoma for 15 years, before settling in the Runnells area. She had an accomplished professional career, working as a secretary for the vice presidents of Central States Theater Corp. and Computer Data Services, and as a computer analyst for Tyson, all with a high school education.

She married Asa James Richardson, Jr. on December 15, 1962, and they were blessed with 62 years of marriage. Vera’s family was her first priority and she loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren above all else.

Vera was organized and kept meticulous records of her home accounts, down to the last detail. She was an avid square dancer with her husband, and enjoyed traveling, recently fulfilling her dream of taking an Alaskan cruise. Her cinnamon rolls were a family favorite and she not only passed the recipe down, but loved to take the time to bake them with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Asa; children, Cynthia “Cindy” Campbell and Scott Richardson; grandchildren, Candi (Chris), Daryl (Amanda), Joshua, Alex, Danielle, and Emily; ten great- grandchildren; siblings, Richard Quick and Patricia Allen; and many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Vera was preceded in death by her grandson, Nicholas; brother, Clifford Quick; and her parents, Ernest and Claribel Quick.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2025, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025, also at Hamilton’s, and will conclude with burial at Avon Cemetery.
