Vonnie Sue Bauer

Vonnie Sue Bauer was born October 14, 1951, in Des Moines, Iowa to Daniel M. and Clara R. Jones. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 2, 2023, in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her family.

Services will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. There will be a reception at the funeral home after the burial.

Vonnie was united in marriage to the love of her life, Bernard “Bill” Bauer on February 10, 1968. To this union four children were born - Marsha Renee, Melanie Sue, Bernard Ray II “Billy”, and Tristin Meshell “Shelly”.

Vonnie was employed as a CNA for many years. She was then supervisor of the Rain Forest Café and concession areas of the Blank Park Zoo, finally retiring as a food service supervisor for Des Moines Public Schools.

Vonnie was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She loved to take road trips with her husband, camping, and fishing. Spending time with her family was her most precious pastime, especially time with her grandkids.

Vonnie is survived by her son, Billy (Bridget); daughters, Melanie (Jon) Bursey and Tristin (Mike) Lester; grandchildren, Gabe, Noah, Aris, Connor, Scarlet, Alishia, Andrew, and Arron; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Vonnie is reunited in death with her beloved husband, Bill; her daughter, Marsha; both her parents; and her siblings, Danny, Bonnie, and Donnie. What a reunion it is!

She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
