Toni Sly
June 05, 1946 — September 09, 2023
The world lost a gentle soul September 9, 2023, when Toni Sly departed this earth.
Always mindful of the needs of others, she befriended the marginalized and entitled alike, with love and kindness. A classic mother bear, she fiercely protected and defended her beloved son, Eric.
Born June 5, 1946, in California, Toni Aldrich was raised in Boone, Iowa, and graduated from Boone High School. She spent most of her productive years working as the most dedicated Realtor, and later as a mortgage loan officer. Additionally, Toni served as a Mary Kay consultant, effectively demonstrating and selling skin care products.
Always on the threshold of getting organized, Toni amassed a remarkable collection of treasured china, glassware, antiques, and trinkets, passed on from family members. She was an enthusiastic twilight golfer searching for the perpetual lost ball. A special event called for a sparkly outfit and high heels. But her signature piece was an enormous purse filled with an assortment of “must haves,” and usually the prop for a prank. Their backyard, featuring a pond, flower beds, and patio became a sanctuary for Toni and her sweet dog “Neighbor.” There they could relax and enjoy nature’s visitors. She could proudly present her certificate of Backyard Wildlife Habitat at Will.
Toni married Larry Sly in 1981. Together they forged an exceptional union that encouraged an open-door policy at their home – where all were welcome. Graciously hosting multiple gatherings of family and friends, they created many hilarious memories.
Toni was preceded in death by her mother, Jane Aldrich. She is survived by her husband Larry; her son Eric; and a plethora of in-laws, cousins, and friends.
The ravages of dementia gradually broke Toni’s presence but couldn’t take her gentle spirit.
The family will greet friends Friday, September 15, 2023, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A casual memorial service will be held Saturday, September 16th at 10 am at the funeral home.

Sandy (deceased 12-21-21) and I had many years of fond memories as part of the Boone High School Class of 1964; of Tony working in her mother's restaurant; at our many class reunions (some at our home); and at your home as well. She was a gentle and kind spirit, always found time to smile, and even could bring those of us to tears as we saw her decline in health over the years. She was a blessing in our lives, and a constant reminder of how lucky each of us was to have you both joyously together despite the many difficulties you shared.
I hope she and Sandy have found each other, so that their special bonds and celebration of freedom from life burdens can continue. I know she will be watching over you just as Sandy watches over me. Stay safe.

Larry/Eric
Ms. Toni is now in heaven. She will meet Dona & Brandon and they will forever look after us.
I have known Toni and you since 1985 or 38 years. We have had so much fun together it would be impossible for anyone else to believe anyone could have this much fun.
I dont know of anyone that has ever said a bad word about Toni as she seemed to take lifes situations in stride knowing the end would always turn out good or be forgotten as not worthy of debating it.
Toni loved not only you but especially Eric your son. While trying times were often hard, Toni understood what most individuals could not and chose to march forward for the loving care.
I could write this for hours, but I will keep it short. Toni was loved by all who met her. Toni likewise loved everyone she met and consider all the same and as friends of her and her family.
I will close and say I will forever miss, Ms. Toni, but I am comfortable she is in a better more beautiful place. And one day we will all meet again, probably not knowingly but our spirts will be noticeable to each. That we have met before.
God Bless you, Eric and your family and friends of many.

I was a Boone High School classmate of Toni. A few years ago, I spoke with her at a gathering and realized that my mother was a very good friend of Toni's aunt, and I knew one of Toni's cousins, not realizing they were related. I enjoyed the evening with Toni reminiscing about our common family experiences and also memories of growing up in Boone. I remember meeting Larry at Class Reunions and feeling Toni's love for her son, Eric. She was a wonderful and caring person and will be missed. Mary (Lundgren) Ahlstrom
