Theodore E. Bulens

Theodore Edward Bulens was born March 22, 1964 to his parents Ray and Clara Bulens in Rock Island, Illinois. Ted lost his battle with AML (acute myeloid leukemia) on June 5, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones.

Ted graduated from the University of Iowa in 1986 with a degree in computer science. Ted and his wife, Carol enjoyed traveling, including many motorcycle adventures. Ted was passionate about politics, the Iowa Hawkeyes, his motorcycle, software development, and financial investments. His main enjoyment came from spending time with his beloved family and friends. He especially cherished his time with his three grandchildren, including cheering them on at numerous sporting events.

Ted will be greatly missed by his family and friends; his gentle and loving smile, comforting and encouraging words, intelligent probing conversations and debates, especially those on politics.

Ted is survived by his wife, Carol Bulens; son, Joseph Bulens; grandchildren, Taelyn, Jackson, and Dawson Bulens; his parents, Ray and Clara Bulens; siblings, Annette (Paul) Hermsen, Kathleen (David) Greve, Lisa (Ruben) Llontop-Gallo; sister-in-law, Katherine (Tom) Baker; and multiple nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence and Victoria Henningfield, and Rami and Pearl Bulens; nephew, Robert Brenton Smith; mother-in-law, Nancy Ballard; niece, Christina Simpson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 10:00 AM, followed by a luncheon at the funeral home. Internment will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery at 10:00am on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
