Theng Thyvara

Our family’s beloved matriarch, Theng Thyvara, passed away on December 7th at Methodist Hospital surrounded and embraced by loved ones in her final moments.

Theng was born in Si Chiang Mai, Thailand on May 10, 1940. She married Thongsao Thyvara in 1960 and they started their family in Thongsao’s hometown of Vientiane, Laos.

The Thyvara family was resettled in Des Moines, Iowa in 1982 thanks to a humanitarian refugee initiative championed by Iowa Governor Robert D. Ray and the kindness of Iowans.

She was known for her nurturing nature, selflessness, eggrolls, and by far had the best sense of humor in our family.

Theng is survived by her husband, Thongsao (85), daughter Chanpheng Davenport (62), son Khemphet Thyvara (58), daughter Kounthong Snyder (56), daughter Charity Ostwinkle (37) and their families.

Mom, we miss you so much and hope you know, you are so loved. You will always be in our hearts.
