Teresa "Terri" Marie Niederhauser
March 21, 1960 — October 10, 2024
Teresa “Terri” Marie Niederhauser passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa on October 10, 2024. The world lost a remarkable wife, mother, nana, and friend.
Terri loved life and lived it to the fullest. She often said that she celebrated every day like it was her birthday. A beautiful soul inside and out, Terri graced this world with her kindness, cheerfulness, and unyielding optimism. Terri was a dreamer, and her contagious laughter could brighten the darkest of days. She had a special gift for making others smile, radiating joy and happiness wherever she went. Terri’s strength and resilience, especially in the face of life’s challenges, inspired everyone around her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and unshakeable hope. Terri will forever remain in our hearts, a beacon of light, reminding us to dream, smile, and love without limits. We were so lucky to have her for as long as we did.
Terri was born on March 21, 1960 to James and Joan Sweeney in Sioux City, Iowa. Terri married James “Jim” Niederhauser on November 5, 1988. Together they built a wonderful life in West Des Moines, Iowa. Terri always made sure they had fun wherever they went. She was an incredible mom to her children, Tyler and Blair. Her favorite role was being Nana to her “love bugs,” Max and Sophie, and she was always her happiest when she was with them. From big gestures to small treats, Terri’s thoughtfulness knew no bounds. Terri loved those close to her fiercely, and she was so incredibly proud of her family.
Terri is preceded in death by her parents, James and Joan Sweeney, and her brother, Jim Sweeney. Terri will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Jim; her children, Tyler (Jessie) and Blair; her grandchildren, Max and Sophie; her little dog, Roxy; and numerous extended family members.
Max and Sophie had the very best nana and now they have the very best guardian angel. We know Terri is watching over us from above with a purse full of candy, wearing bright pink clothes and a tiara, and cheering for us all down here. Terri fought so hard for so long to be with the people she loved. She was truly one of a kind. Rest peacefully and sleep with the angels, Ter-Bear.
A visitation will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 21 at the same location.
Memorials may be directed to the family in loving memory of Terri. Condolences can be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
