Ted Phillip Bell
November 11, 1940 — January 18, 2024
Ted Phillip Bell, 83, passed away January 18, 2024. Services will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA at 11:00 a.m. Family will greet friends after the service during the luncheon that follows.
Ted was born November 11, 1940, in Des Moines, IA to Howard and Arlene (Priest) Bell. He attended East High School where he was named the first ever captain of the football team. He graduated in 1959 and shortly afterwards joined the Des Moines Fire Department where he served for over 17 years. During this time, he took a leave to join the Marine Reserves where he was stationed in Buford, SC. Ted married his sweetheart, Donna Fisher, in May of 1963. The couple lived on the south side of Des Moines all their lives. Ted later went to work for Principal Financial Group as an electrician until his retirement.
In his free time, Ted enjoyed annual fishing trips to Minnesota with his seven brothers. His love for fishing was shared with his children, grandchildren and even his great-grandson. He was a man of many interests including hunting, gardening, poetry, opera, trips to Las Vegas and watching football. Ted was a jokester who was very patriotic – often ending his texts with an American flag emoji.
He will be missed by his wife, Donna; daughter, Suzanne (John) Daley; his son, Mark (Kim Mauro) Bell; his grandchildren Mark Jr. and Megan Bell, and Hannah Daley; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Ellie and Aubrey; his sister, Diana Griffith; brothers, Michael, Steve and David Bell; brother-in-law, Tom; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Jack, Jerry, Terry and Paul Bell.

Donna and family, I hope you are comforted by the kind memories each of you has of Ted. I frequently noticed how much love Donna and he had for each other. For myself, while I never met Ted, it is plainly clear that the world is a better place due to him. Take Care.
