Thomas "Rusty" Moore

Rusty Moore, 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 20, 2023. Rusty was born September 2, 1943, in Brownwood, TX.

Rusty's life was a testament to the lasting influence of his love and unwavering commitment. He cherished his family, finding his greatest joy in the presence of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He found great pleasure watching them grow, sharing in their laughter and accomplishments. Rusty never missed a grandchild’s event and cheered them on at hundreds of sporting events and dance recitals.

Rusty's commitment to his community shone through his roles as the President of the Men's Golf Club at Terrace Hills Golf Course, where he fostered camaraderie among fellow golf enthusiasts, and as the President of Grandview Little League, where he tirelessly helped build an institution that continues to thrive today and will forever be intertwined with his memory. In addition to his various commitments, Rusty was a skilled craftsman and a previous member of a car club, where he dedicated himself to restoring his Model A car. He also cherished his time working in his downstairs workshop—where he built his first great-grandchild’s crib. With one of his last projects sitting beside that same grandchild as she painted a bird house he had built her. In the midst of all these endeavors, Rusty also found solace in his quiet but unwavering faith in God. In his memory, we find comfort and strength, knowing that his legacy of love, dedication, and faith will forever guide and inspire us.

He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Moore; daughter, Tracie (Mike) Pavon; grandchildren, Michael (Morgan) Pavon, Caleb (Jordan Hobbs) Pavon, and Libbie Pavon; great-grandchildren, Quinn Pavon and Jack Pavon; sister, Becky Hilbrand; and numerous nieces and nephews, other loving relatives, and many special friends.

Rusty was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and John Schmidt; and son, Michael Moore.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 26, 2023, also at Hamilton’s, with burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Blank Children’s Hospital.
