Suzanne L. Clingan

Suzanne Louise Clingan, 81, passed away April 2, 2024 at her home in Urbandale, Iowa After a three-year battle with Parkinson’s, she passed away peacefully under Hospice home care.
Suzanne was born September 18, 1942 to Floyd and Agnes (Wright) Akes in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from East High School. Suzanne retired as a letter carrier after 26 years of service at the United States Postal Service. She devoted her life to raising her family, traveling to places ranging from Alaskan cruises, Hawaii, the Florida Keys, New York, the Golden Gate Bridge (50th wedding anniversary) and many other places. She enjoyed many evening boat rides, and watching the sunset while living on Lake Panorama. She adored her three granddaughters, Tiffany, Grace, and Hope.
Suzanne enjoyed playing tennis, ping pong, fishing, crafts, scrapbooking, genealogy and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Fred; her two sons, Chris (girlfriend Tracy), Tim (Stacie) Clingan; her granddaughters, Tiffany, Grace, and Hope Clingan; her sister, Myra Countryman; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Agnes Akes; and her sister, Patricia Single.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Norwalk Cemetery in Norwalk, IA.

Sue and I were both mail carriers at the Drake Post Office in the early 80’s. We had our picture in the DMS Register chatting at a relay box where our mail routes overlapped. Our USPS managers were not very happy with us . . .

My condolences to the family. I worked with Sue at West Suburban Post Office for a number of years. Sue as a wonderful person and a joy to work with. Everyone missed her when she retired but I hope she enjoyed her retirement years.

We don't have the words to express how much we love and miss you. Heaven gained the most beautiful mother in law on the planet!! It hurts several generations deep to lose you.
Our family is very present in Fred's life. Staying very present and wrapping our loving arms around Fred, and we will continue to do so, until your souls meet again.
