Service Details

Sharon K. Brumley, age 79, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2026, at University Park Nursing and Rehabilitation. In accordance with Sharon’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal funeral services will be held.

Sharon was born on December 23, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa to Elmer Allen “Bullwinkle” Brumley Sr. and Pauline Marie Newcomb Gunhus. She grew up in the area, attending Saydel High School from 1964 to 1966. Decades later, proving that you are never too old to pursue your goals, Sharon went back to school and graduated from Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) with the Class of 2021, earning her degree in Management.

Sharon was truly a jack of all trades. Professionally, she worked as a housekeeping supervisor and spent many years as an in-home caregiver for the elderly, bringing comfort to many lives. Personally, she was a creative soul who loved making beautiful wreaths and always made sure she looked her best, rarely missing an opportunity to get her hair and nails done. She had a deep love for jewelry, red and black colors, and the music of Elvis Presley. Above all, her absolute best friend and faithful four-legged companion was her dog, Shiloh.

Sharon was a force of nature who fiercely spoke her mind. You always knew exactly where you stood with her; she was incredibly direct and did not care whether you liked what she said or not. That same fiery spirit made her a fierce competitor, especially when it came to her favorite game, Bingo.

Sharon’s greatest pride was her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved daughter, Robin Gienger, who passed away on April 5, 2026; her sister, Lorri Lynn Brumley; her brother, Sean Brumley; and her niece, Patricia Frost.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Charles “Chuck” Brumley of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Alisha Mericle of Des Moines, Iowa; her cherished grandchildren, Christina Mericle, Kati Hamilton (Tyler), Danielle McGhghy (Josh), Justin Hernandez (Brittney), and Jesse Hernandez (Shaina); and her nine adored great-grandchildren, Taylor Johnson, Riya Mericle, Braylin Johnson, Ryker Johnson, Ivan McGhghy, Paislee Arrowood, Everett Brown, Matteo Hernandez, and Roxas Hernandez. Sharon is also survived by her siblings, Gloria Brumley Frost, Mindy Close (Gary), Junior Brumley AKA JR Brumley, and Dan Brumley, along with a host of extended family and dear friends.
