Sandra Kay Terry, 72 of West Des Moines, IA passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 26th at Edgewater in West Des Moines.

Sandy was born on January 7, 1951, in Des Moines, IA to Virgil and Betty (Hansen) Saunders. She was a graduate of Johnston High School in 1969. During that time, she was a member of the basketball team and was an active participant at Johnston Evangelical Church. On February 21, 1970, she was united in marriage to Richard R. Terry. Shortly after marriage they moved to Landstuhl, West Germany, where he was stationed, and they welcomed their first daughter Denise Kalbus. After returning from West Germany, they moved to Polk City and welcomed their second daughter, Julie Terry. Sandy was employed at Farmland and Principal Financial Group. She was a long-time member of the Women’s Card Club and a Polk City Planning & Zoning board member. She also was a Girl Scout Leader for eight years and a Service Unit Manager for the Polk City Girl Scouts. Once the girls graduated high school, they relocated to the Beaverdale area. For the last 14 years of her life, she enjoyed living with her daughter Julie and becoming the best of friends.

Sandy was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed spending time traveling with family, watching the Kansas City Chiefs, working on her Ancestry, and wearing all her hats. She devoted herself to family and all those that she loved dearly, and she will be missed by so many.

Sandy is survived by her daughters, Denise (Kevin) Kalbus of Indianola, IA, and Julie Terry of West Des Moines, IA; siblings, Randy (Debi) Saunders of Lexington, KY, Karen Krebs of Norwalk and Linda (Mitch) Montgomery of Urbandale, IA; granddaughters, Kaylee Kalbus of West Des Moines, IA and Bradee Kalbus of Indianola, IA; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents Virgil and Betty (Hansen) Saunders, brother-in-law, Ronald Krebs, nephew, Rusty Doll and the love of her life, Richard Terry.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 2nd also at the funeral home with burial following at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines, IA.
