Sandra Kay Bowman, 78, passed away on October 30, 2023, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Sandra was born May 21, 1945, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa to Herbert and Irene (Krouse) Smith.

She was a strong woman who raised her sons and her daughter all on her own. She loved her dogs and had many over the years. She took enormous pride in volunteering at Bidwell Riverside and the United Methodist Women’s Group for 20+ years.

Sandra is survived by her sons, Frank Zepeda, Phil Zepeda, Julian Zepeda, Jr., and David (Tena) Zepeda; daughter, Juanita (Harlo) Rhiner; grandchildren, Alicha Rivas Zepeda, Francisca Rivas Zepeda, Anna Kay Zepeda, Jaxson Zepeda, Michelle Zepeda, Angelica Zepeda, Julian Zepeda III, Nick Zepeda, Julena Zepeda, Sarah DeBrouse, Sandra Rhiner, Robbie Rhiner, Jamie Rhiner, and Corey Rhiner; great-grandchildren, Dalilah, Eli, Alexander, Lily, and Adelyn; siblings, Betty (Jack) McCormick, Jeffrey (Debra) Smith, and Michael Smith; and numerous other loving friends and family member.

She was preceded in death by the father of her children, Julian Zepeda; her parents; and siblings, Dan Smith and Patty Smith.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Fraternal Order of Eagles, 6567 Bloomfield Road, Des Moines, Iowa.
