Susan Jean (Grimes) Steinick died on August 6, 2024, in Duncan, Oklahoma.

Susan was born on January 29, 1938, in Laredo, Missouri to Gertrude and Codey Grimes. She was delivered by her grandfather, a country doctor. Susan lived most of her life in the Des Moines, Iowa area but spent the last six years in Duncan, Oklahoma living on her own near her daughter, Beth. Susan graduated high school from Bondurant-Farrar then attended Omaha Baptist Bible College for a year.

Foremost, Susan was a born-again Christian. Her faith in Jesus as Savior sustained her through many trials and tribulations. She saw to it that her children were in church and that they, too, came to accept Him as Savior.

Susan chose to work when most women were staying home. She was very intelligent and had a tremendous work ethic. She worked as a secretary for the State of Iowa but spent most of her career employed in the medical field. She worked for Dr. Greg Ganske in both his medical and congressional offices.

Susan was mother to Beth, Eric, and Jon. She loved her children and grandchildren, greatly, and lamented them growing up. She grieved for the days when they were little and spent many hours in her company.

Susan had several pastimes she enjoyed. Anyone who knew her was aware her favorite was shopping. Next to shopping, Susan loved to cook and entertain. She was the driving force behind frequent family dinners and celebrations for many years. She installed an in-ground pool despite not being able to swim. She knew it would draw others to her for food and fellowship. Susan was a skilled seamstress making everything from wedding dresses to band uniforms. She enjoyed crocheting, as well. In her last years, she got most of her pleasure from her dogs. They had ice cream together every night and she was constantly worried they weren't eating enough, despite them being overweight.

Susan is survived by daughter Beth Gregory and husband, Mark, of Duncan, Oklahoma; son Eric Steinick of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; and son Jon Steinick of Nashville, Tennessee. Susan is also survived by granddaughter, Emily Prichard, husband Luke, and their son, Colt, of Duncan, Oklahoma; granddaughter Kate Gregory of Keller, Texas; and granddaughter Emma Steinick of Altoona, Iowa. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved grandson, Nickolas Steinick.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on August 16, 2024 at Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines, Iowa.
