Steven J. Sims
April 26, 1952 — November 29, 2024
Steven Jerome Sims, age 72, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, at Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born on April 26, 1952, in Nebraska City, Nebraska to Arnold and Charlotte Sims. He attended North High School in Omaha. Steve proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps from 1970 to 1974 during the Vietnam War.
He married the love of his life, Nancy Lydon Sims, on February 22, 2003. He retired from John Deere Ankeny Works in July of 2020. Steve and Nancy loved camping, fishing, gardening, and yard work. Most importantly, he loved spending time with family. Family was everything to him! This also included his beloved pets, Mabel and Smoky.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of 22 years, Nancy Sims; children, Jerry (JJ), Lisa (Chuck), Ray (Sam), Danny (Autumn), Draper (Julie), and Michael; 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; five sisters and one brother; and his pets, Mabel and Smoky.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Arnold Sims; mother, Charlotte Sims; and his sister, Arna Sims.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, with military honors performed at 3 p.m.

As a co-worker of Steve's, I shared numerous laughs with this man. He always talked about his family and his grandkids. His laugh was infectious.so too, was his smile!
I knew him as a man who had integrity, in life and on the job. Rest in Heaven Steve...
