Steve Hopkins

Steve Craig Hopkins, age 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 11, 2023, at his home in Grimes.

Steve was born September 19, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Tech High School in Des Moines in the class of 1967. He formed lifelong friendships during that time. Steve and his classmates would see each other often, sometimes even weekly. Steve proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1968 - 1970, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Des Moines to raise his family. Steve was employed in mechanical maintenance and welding with Massey Ferguson, Ryko, Count, and Titan Tire. He was an outdoorsman and loved spending time fishing and hunting. He was also an avid classic car enthusiast.

Steve is survived by his sons, Michael (Lisa) Hopkins, Daniel Hopkins, and Adam Simons; nine grandchildren; sister, Laurette (Ralph) Scheve; three nephews and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Hopkins; wife, Chris; son, Andrew Cebuhar; and his grandfather who was like a father to him, Orville Ralph Harvey.

There will be a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 22, 2023, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, IA 50003. Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Waterfront Seafood Market Restaurant, 2414 SE Tones Dr., Ankeny, IA 50021.
