Dear Judy and family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I was Sam's Platoon leader and Company Commander in Vietnam in 1970-71. "Sergeant Sam" was my right hand man, and the go to guy in all situations. From the day I stepped off that helicopter into combat, Sam taught this young inexperienced 2nd. Lt. everything I needed to help get me through the "training period." He was professional, confident, and crucial to the success of our platoon. His valuable advice was key in my decision making process, and together, we made important decisions regarding 40 men, and later 160 men, as he was my Sergeant as Company Commander. He was a great leader, friend, patriot, and an outstanding representative of the United States Army. God bless you "Sergeant Sam."
