Shirley S. Carpenter

Shirley Sue Carpenter, age 77, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Trinity Center Luther Park in Des Moines.

Shirley was born January 6, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa to Donald Edward Carpenter and Pauline S. (Allen) Carpenter. She graduated from high school and went on to attend cosmetology school. She loved being a cosmetologist and beautician and was owner and operator of Coifs by Shir on the eastside for many years. She worked as a Motor Route Driver for the Des Moines Register, and also in customer service for Budget Marketing and Wells Fargo. Shirley loved family get-togethers, as well as attending the many activities of her nieces and nephews. She was their #1 fan! She also enjoyed crocheting and sewing.

She is survived by her nephew, Don (Trudy) Carpenter; nieces, DeAnn (Bob) Shortt and Alyson (Mike) Baldwin; great nieces and great nephews, Kaitlyn, Carley, Kierstyn, Camryn, Donnie, Chelsee, Amber, Branden, Benjamin, Mary, and Jordan.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Pauline Carpenter, and her brother, Donald Carpenter.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Cremation will take place after the service. Her urn will be buried at Lowman Cemetery in Runnells at a later date.
