Stephen V. Carlson, Sr., age 63, passed away Friday, December 8, 2023.

Stephen was born April 16, 1960, in Des Moines, Iowa to Richard Carlson, Sr. and Jacqueline (Fitzgibbon) Carlson. Stephen had a strong faith and loved to preach the Lord’s word. He was the foundation of his family and everyone’s rock. Family was his highest priority. He loved singing to his wife, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and family gatherings. Some of his favorite pastimes included fishing, hunting, long car rides, and going to the casino.

Stephen was extremely talented at carpentry. He was self-employed in construction, owning a roofing company, building sunrooms, and lending his carpentry skills to many.

He is survived by his wife, Sue; children, Charity Carlson, Christy Petithory (Broc), Stephen Carlson, Jr. (Michelle), and Dillon Carlson; grandchildren, Austin, Jordan, Tyler, Anthony, Skylar, Ellisa, Zacary, Alec, Jonathon, Elizabeth, Breanna, and Peyton; great-granddaughter, Brynlee; siblings, Kimberly Carlson, Richard Carlson, Jr. (Penny), Mark Carlson, and James Carlson (Missy); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Jacqueline Carlson, and his sister, Jeanette Carlson

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3300 Easton Blvd, Des Moines with a luncheon to follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Stephen.
