Ruth Calhoun

Ruth Irene Calhoun, 98, of Des Moines, IA completed her marathon of life on December 7, 2024.

Ruth was born Feb 14, 1926, in Grove City, PA to William and Leticia (McWilliams) Wiseman.

After Ruth graduated from Hoover High School, San Diego, CA. she went to work as a long distance switchboard operator for AT&T in Grove City, PA (1945 -1950). She transferred with AT&T to Ottumwa, IA in 1950.

Ruth married Frank Calhoun June 5, 1951 in Fairfield, IA.

Ruth was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Des Moines. Ruth worked at Bankers Life and retired from Principal in 1991. She enjoyed playing cards, doing jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her friends and family. Ruth was a sports enthusiast. She loved watching the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals, the Iowa State Cyclones and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank Calhoun, her sisters, Vivian Bloomquist (Max), Marlene Domenig (George) and brothers, Bud Wiseman (Barb) and Bob Wiseman (Annie).

Ruth is survived by her sons, James Calhoun (Sue) and Mark Calhoun (Kathleen), two grandchildren, Joshua Calhoun and Meredith Coe (Ben), two great-grandchildren, Tam and Miles Coe; as well as a host of other loving family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Highland Park Little League.

A celebration of her life will be held in the future. (Summer 2025)
