Ross Mortenson

Ross Mortenson, 41, of West Des Moines, Iowa passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ross was born on August 31, 1983 to Jane and Cliff Mortenson in Waterloo, Iowa. He attended Cedar Falls High School, graduating in 2002. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Finance in 2006, and later received a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Iowa.

Ross married Amber Franklin in 2006. They welcomed their daughter Sage in 2009 and son Drew in 2011. Ross spent the last 14 years working for EMC Insurance Companies in Des Moines.

A devoted husband and father, Ross’ love for his family was transparent. They vacationed frequently throughout the country and in different parts of the world, and actively sought ways to enjoy the outdoors together as a family. When Ross wasn’t busy transforming their home’s basement and backyard into an oasis for youth sports and recreation, he was attending one of Sage or Drew’s many school activities, leading them on a bike ride, or trying to keep pace with them at a local disc golf course. Ross was a very engaged and encouraging father who nurtured his children’s interests and always inspired them to be true to themselves and make the most of the unique gifts each of them bring to the world.

Ross will be remembered as the guy everyone could turn to for help with anything. He was always quick with a good book recommendation, or to share a hilarious video. His natural intelligence and curiosity for how things worked often resulted in him figuring out a way to make them better. And he brought a dry sense of humor and wit that few could keep up with.

He is survived by his wife, Amber; daughter Sage and son Drew; brother, Josh (Jill), and many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Jane Mortenson and Cliff Mortenson.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, October 4 at 11:00a.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines, Iowa.
