Ronald Barry Coppi

Ronald Barry Coppi, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 3, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family. Ron was born in Des Moines on October 24,1937 to Margaret and Alfred Coppi, and grew up on the eastside of Des Moines. He was a proud graduate of Dowling High School Class of 1956. Ron married the love of his life, Jane, in 1957 and together they raised five children. His family takes great comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his one true love.


Ron was a family man of endearing faith and a devout Catholic. He was an entrepreneur and a very successful businessman. He enjoyed history, politics, and following current events. Ron was incredibly knowledgeable and loved a good conversation. He was also a man of great strength. That strength was evident throughout his entire life; from surviving tuberculosis as a teenager to enduring a quadruple bypass surgery at age 60, and most recently with the stroke.


Ron is survived by his five children, Dino Coppi, Theresa French, Caroline Compiano, John Coppi and Christine (Pat) Conway all of West Des Moines; his seven grandchildren, Allison (Robert) Tegeler, Michael French, Jack and Jayne Conway, Olivia Compiano, Miranda Coppi and Samantha Barrett; as well as four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Jane Coppi; and his siblings, Tom Coppi, Michael Lane Plummer and Lana Rice.


Visitation will be held at Hamiltons on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines on Thursday, February 8 at 5 p.m., with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be held Friday, February 9 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi in West Des Moines. Private burial will follow.
