Roger Tulloss Barnett, was born in 1944 in Ottawa, Kansas. He passed away on October 31, 2023 at home. Roger lived his life in Kansas and in Des Moines, Iowa.

Roger graduated from Olathe high school in Olathe, Kansas in 1962. He attended college at Baker University, in Baldwin City, Kansas.

Roger enlisted in the US Marine Corp and served in Vietnam from 1966-68 in the first battalion 9th Marines (called "the walking dead"). He was combat wounded and was awarded a Purple Heart Medal. Roger was gratified to have been honored by participating in an Iowa Honor Flight to Washington, DC in 2019.

He married Cheryl Barnett and they later divorced. A son was born to this union, Heath Barnett. He married Catherine (Cathy) Ann Ritz Barnett on September 15, 1978 after being introduced by friends on a blind date. They were married 45 years.

Roger was a member of Boilermakers Local No. 83, Kansas City, Kansas. After moving to Iowa, he worked for the US Post Office for 24 years, retiring in 1984.

Roger was most recently a member of All Saints Catholic Church and a member of the VFW.

Roger enjoyed working on cars, especially his corvette, playing his guitar (he was a fan of blues music and belonged to the Iowa Blues Society) and cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs. According to his wife, one of Roger's greatest talents was his ability to fix and repair anything! If he didn't have the
correct tool, he would create one.

Friends will miss his ready smile and willingness to help anyone. The family appreciates and gives thanks to the family and friends who were so supportive and helpful during the past few years. Roger was particularly appreciative of the care he received from the compassionate personal at the Des Moines VA Hospital.

Left to cherish roger's memory are his wife, Cathy Barnett; son, Heath (Christy) Barnett; stepson, Bill Boudewyns; grandsons, Taylor (Courtney) Barnett and Benjamin Boudewyns; and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Beverly Sheets, and numerous nieces and nephews. And, not to forget, his faithful furry dog, Lilly. Roger was fortunate to enjoy a long special friendship with his best friend, Bob Blair.
