Roger Vernon Anderson
January 11, 1938 — June 02, 2024
Roger Vernon Anderson, 86, passed away on June 2, 2024. He fought the past three years with incredible determination and humility to recover from a severe stroke and complications, which eventually became more than his body could endure. A celebration of life service will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines from 4 to 7 PM on Friday, June 28, 2024. A private interment will be held at McLaren’s Resthaven in West Des Moines.
Roger was born on January 11, 1938, in Mora, MN to Doris (Lindquist) and Vernon Anderson. He graduated from Lane Tech High School in Chicago and then went on to attend North Park College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He also served two years in the Army prior to completing his degree. Roger worked his entire career for Central Steel & Wire (Chicago). He met his wife Judy there and moved to Des Moines in 1970 to be a field sales representative, a position perfect for Roger’s warm personality and quick wit.
Roger was very active and athletic. He enjoyed playing golf, softball, fishing, traveling, spending time with friends, and was a lifelong devoted Chicago Cubs fan. Most of all Roger loved his family. He always made it a priority to be involved in the activities and events in which his wife, children, and grandchildren participated. He could light up a room with his humor, quick comebacks, kind nature, and endearing smile.
He will be dearly missed by many people. Roger is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy Anderson; his daughter, Lael (Mike) Adamson; his son, Kyle Anderson; and his grandchildren, Haleigh, Lexie, Aidan, Ashlund, and Aylin.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to West Des Moines United Methodist Church/Roger Anderson Memorial Fund or to the Animal Rescue League.
Condolences may be expressed at Hamilton’s Funeral Home www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
