Robert G. Wright

Robert “Bob” Wright, 77, of West Des Moines, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. A Celebration of Life will be held July 13, 2024 at Valley Church, 4343 Fuller Road, West Des Moines, IA 50265 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service. Family asks that you wear Hawaiian print or casual attire to honor Bob. Memorials in Bob’s honor may be directed to Joshua Christian Academy, 1740 Garfield Des Moines, IA 50316 https://gotjosh.org/donate/. A private family burial will take place later at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

Robert Gene Wright was born on July 12, 1946, the youngest child to Clarence and Mabel Wright. He graduated from Ackley-Geneva High School in 1964 then was drafted into the Army. Upon returning from service, he attended Northwest Missouri State where he graduated with his bachelor’s degree in marketing. After graduating he returned home to Ackley, IA where he met his wife, Dee. They were united in marriage on May 24, 1975. Together they had three children Andy, Shauna, and Tricia.

Bob was an avid golfer for many years, participating in men’s league and numerous golf tournaments. He loved fishing and said a day fishing with no fish to show was better than most days. Bob never met a dog he didn’t like and especially enjoyed taking care of his grand puppies. He also cared for several foster dogs and he and Dee recently adopted Chloe. He enjoyed annual fishing trips with his brother, nephews, and friends to Lake Rathbun. During a recent fishing trip with his friend, Bryce, they proudly displayed their empty fishing line but still enjoyed the trip. Bob was a great cook, card player, and was quite the handyman. He was never too busy to stop and help his girls out whether it was projects around the house or spoiling his grand puppies. Dad always liked to put a smile on people’s faces, reading The Far Side, and especially enjoyed the book of Dad Jokes he’d get for Christmas so he could share them.

Bob leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Dee; daughter, Shauna Wright and grand puppies, Frankie and Bruno; daughter, Tricia (Brad) Proctor and grand puppies, Zusi, Nash, and Rocky; father-in-law, Reverend Hal Miller; brother, Larry Wright; sisters-in-law, Julie (Kent) McDougal and Kathy Lampman; brothers-in-law, Tom (Nancy) Miller and Steve (Shauna) Miller; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; along with thousands of fishing lures and memorabilia.

He was preceded in death by his son, Andy Wright; mother and father, Mabel and Clarence Wright; mother-in-law, Patricia Miller; and sister-in-law, Leola Wright.
