Robert "Wendy" Stringer
July 13, 1932 — December 27, 2024
Robert Wendell Stringer (Wendy) was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather known for hard work, a gentle and compassionate spirit and love for the Lord. Wendy was a veteran of the Korean war, serving in the 235th Field Artillery Observation Battalion. He was also a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan!
Wendy was born in Moberly, Missouri July 13, 1932 and passed away in his home on December 27, 2024, where he lived with his wife of 72 years, Lois Stringer. Wendy grew up in Missouri and moved to Des Moines in 1951 to begin working as a tile setter apprentice. The couple met at Grandview Park Baptist Church and were married June 14, 1952.
Wendy dedicated his entire career to the art of tile setting, earning a reputation as one of the most talented craftsmen in the field. He established his own company early on, leaving his mark on some of central Iowa’s most iconic homes and buildings. He worked closely with renowned designers and architects, bringing their creative visions to life with his unparalleled skill. Among his proudest achievements was passing down his knowledge and skill to his grandsons and sons-in-law and assisting with home remodeling. He was always willing help whoever needed it.
Wendy came to know the Lord as his savior at an early age and was faithful in his walk with the Lord throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Mae Stringer; daughter, Kathy (Kevin) Prendergast; grandchild, Kyle (Lindsay); great grandchildren, Reagan and Riley; grandchild, Kory (Jennifer); great grandchildren, Claire, Owen and Mackenzie; daughter, Susan (Bob) Briles; grandchild, Chad (Kristy); great grandchildren, Cate and Cash; grandchild, Todd (Emily); grandchildren, Taylor Mae and Ryan; daughter, Shari (Tom) Briles; grandchild, Kassidy (Jimmy) Vanderkamp; great grandchildren, Elliana, Everly, and Estelle; grandchild, Britni (Adam) Ventling; and great grandchildren, Parker, Olivia, and Willow.
Services will be held at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines on Friday, January 3, 2025. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. with Memorial Service to follow at 10:30 a.m. followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, One NE 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Family invites guest to join them for lunch following burial at 5151 NE 3rd in Des Moines.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family today and in the coming days. Wendell was a wonderful man and I always enjoyed his presence during my days of working with Chad. He truly made an impact on those close to him and he will be missed by many.
