Robert William Grunder

Robert William Grunder, 64, passed away September 14, 2025 after a lengthy illness. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Church at Union Park, 821 Arthur Ave in Des Moines, IA.

Bob was born in Grinnell, IA but was raised in Brooklyn, IA and Lincoln, NE. The family later moved to Des Moines where Bob attended Dowling High School and later Urbandale High School Class of 1980. He enjoyed playing football, hockey and running track.

Following high school, Bob worked in the construction industry to support his family. He was a very hard-worker and committed father. In his free-time, Bob was a talented woodworker – building and refinishing furniture. In addition, he enjoyed working on cars, trucks and boats. As a family, much time was spent boating and taking annual trips to Branson to enjoy the lake.

Bob was hard-headed and stubborn, but sweet, protective and a true teddy bear. He is greatly missed by his mother, Margaret Grunder; wife, Jennifer Bidler; children, Robert II, Chris, Shelby and Kobe Grunder; his grandchildren, Keith, Cencere and Elijah; his sister, Mindy (Jeff) DeMoss; step-sisters, Kim Stevens and Sandy Strong; his niece, Kristina; and nephew, Noah.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, Edward Grunder; and son, Zach Grunder.
