Service Details

Robert Bondurant, 74, passed away Friday, October 18, 2024 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Robert (Bob) Dewey Bondurant was born on December 16, 1949 to Dewey and Georgia Bondurant in Council Bluffs, Iowa. His family moved to Des Moines when Bob was in the 6th grade and he joined the Boy Scouts where his favorite activities included archery and lapidary. He also enjoyed summer camping at Camp Mitigwa in Boone, Iowa.

Bob married Monica Brich on October 8, 1982. They met while roller skating at Skate Country on the north side of Des Moines. Bob and Monica biked for many years with a group of friends on Sunday mornings or Tuesday nights. Bob also loved to fish and you could often find him fishing off the old Scott Street Bridge in downtown Des Moines. He also enjoyed pheasant hunting with his good friend Doug.

Bob and Monica were avid travelers. Before Bob’s paralysis in 2016, they had traveled to many US locations as well as Egypt, Greece, Italy, Spain, London and finished with a Greek Island cruise. Bob was so glad he didn’t wait until he had retired from 35+ years of service from Walgreens to start his traveling!

Bob is survived by his wife, Monica Brich; brother, Mike (Sharon) Slavik; sisters-in-law, Pat (Marc) Asmussen and Becki (Larry Skrdla) Brich; brothers-in-law, Dick Brich and Randy (Michele) Brich; along with nieces and nephews (and greats) on both sides of the family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carole Carpenter; brother-in-law, Bill Carpenter; in-laws, Clair and Beatrice Brich; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Brich.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Animal Rescue League.

Special thanks to Tami and Jo his caregivers. Their assistance made it possible for Bob to remain at home following his paralysis. Bob handled his paralysis with grace and humor. He showed us how to live a good life after such adversity.
