Richard "Rich" Strang

Richard “Rich” Strang, 76, passed away December 28, 2023 at Unity Point Health Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
Richard was born September 11, 1947 in Berea, Ohio to Stanley and Ada (Bearupe) Strang. He graduated from Des Moines Tech in 1966. Richard served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and returned home as a proud veteran who always thought of his fallen brothers and sisters. He retired from the City of Des Moines in 2008 after 35 years of service while also working as a flooring contractor with Plywood Minnesota for 25 years. Richard was a member of the Bellizzi-MacRae American Legion Post #659. He enjoyed trips on his motorcycles, especially poker runs. Richard also loved golfing, boating, friendly community events and family get-togethers. He was not only an avid racing fan, but he truly could not get enough of his beloved Cleveland Browns.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Vicki; sons, Tony and Shawn Strang; brother, Thomas (Geri) Strang; sisters-in-law, Joy Henry, Jeanne Butler, Dixie Bowlin, RoxAnne (David) Wark, Misty (Darrell) Miller and Tammy (John) Brinkley; brothers-in-law, Mark Janes, Donald Janes, Jr. and Rodney (Bonnie) Janes; as well as a host of extended family and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Strang; brother-in-law, Tom Bowlin; parents-in-law, Don and Wanda Janes; sister-in-law, Karen Janes; and his nephew, Mark Janes, Jr.
The family will greet friends Sunday, January 7, 2024 from 2 pm to 4 pm at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 8th at 10 am at the funeral home.

Working with Rich some 50 years ago.. some conversations we had about viet nam helped me survive the war. I made it back with all my physical parts. THANK YOU RICH
