Richard "Dick" Hale

Richard Frederic Hale was born on August 20, 1941, in Dickinson County Iowa to Clyde and Selma (Olson) Hale. Dick grew up on farms in the Lake Park, Iowa area where he attended and graduated from high school. After graduation, Dick moved to Des Moines, Iowa where he lived with his sister, Betty and family. He began his years of employment at EMCO Industries in 1959 He married Patricia Donovan in August of 1962.
Dick was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1966 and spent two years serving his country in Viet Nam. On August 20th of 1978, Dick married Peggy Bales of Des Moines.

Dick was always an avid sports fan, playing football in high school, then following the hometown team his entire life. He became a well-known bowler in Des Moines, reaching his goal of a perfect game, and proudly wore his “300 ring.” He cheered for the “Cubbies,” the Iowa and Iowa State college teams, Pro teams, and read the sports page daily.

After retirement, Dick worked for Allens Seamless Gutters in Des Moines, and began following the NASCAR racing circuit.,with special interest in the driver, Todd Allen,

Dick was a well-liked guy with many friends. He became very close to the members of the Amvet’s Post No. 2 in Des Moines, where he served on the Board Of Trustees. These special friends took care of him and were there for him until the end.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gary. He maintained a close relationship, and will be dearly missed by his sister, Betty Johnson Dalrymple, nephews Gary Hale, Jr,. and Ryan Johnson; neices, Richelle Pfeiffer, and Beth Peterson, special friend Peggy Cooper, the Post friends, and many others.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date with burial in Lake Park, Iowa.
