Richard Joseph Ballantini passed away Saturday, October 14, 2023.
Richard was born April 30, 1937 to Mel and Mae (Giannasi) Ballantini in Des Moines, Iowa. He and the love of his life Mary were together for 20 years before marrying on May 9, 1987. They owned and operated Poor Richard’s Lounge and the Mary Go Round Lounge. Richard and Mary enjoyed vacationing and boating at their home in the Ozarks. Richard worked for the Iowa Powers Lights and was a proud member of All Saints Catholic Church and Vittoria Lodge.
Richard is survived by his siblings, Marie (Lewis) Warner, and David Ballantini; nephews and nieces, Christine (Duane) Elscott, Greg (Jodi) Warner, Cathy (Kirk) Besh, Michael Ballantini, Amy (John) Potter, and Anne (Jon) Poeppe; many great nephews and nieces; step-children, Lora (Don) Wyckoff, Sweetpea/Kim Avery, and Lisa Hobbs; and several step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; Parents; and step sons, Kenny Avery and Jim Avery
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa, with burial to follow at the Berwick Cemetery. A visitation with family present will be held an hour prior from 10:00 to 11:00 p.m. also at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic Church or a charity of your choosing in loving memory of Richard Ballantini.
The family would like to thank UnityPoint Methodist Hospital and Senior Helpers for the loving care and comfort they gave Richard and his family.

Richard was a grade school friend of my late husband, Dave. He was an usher in our wedding and my husband helped him design Poor Richard's Lounge. Although they did not see each other much . . . their friendship never wavered.

I'm very sad that he passed and very sorry for everyones loss. I was just with him Thursday and Friday night and Friday I had looked up one of his favorite singers Daniel O'Donnell and played him some songs for him to listen to. I know that he liked that very much as did I. I will miss him very much.
