Raymond "Ray" Griffin
February 22, 1966 — March 28, 2025
Ray Griffin 59 passed away peacefully at his home on March 28, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Ray was born on February 22, 1966, to James and Judith Griffin. Ray grew up in Ankeny where he attended Ankeny High School and excelled in football, track, and wrestling. Some of the brightest moments in his life were raising his two children and spending time with his four grandchildren. Ray enjoyed riding his Harley, fishing, camping, playing horseshoes, bags and just being outdoors.
Ray spent his career as an amazing mechanic at Star Equipment and ended his career as a Carman with Union Pacific Railroad. He was a jack of all trades and excelled at everything he did.
Ray was a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan. When he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s/Dementia he crossed off a big dream from his bucket list. Ray visited Lambo field to watch his favorite team play one more time.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Vicki Griffin, his daughter Heather Gomez, and son Ray Ray Griffin II; his four grandchildren Zayne, Zayden, Gabriel, and Nayeli; and a host of extended family and friends.
Ray was proceeded in death by his parents, Jim and Judy Griffin; sisters, Peggy Delany and Lori Stevens; father-in-law, Mike Gomez; and sister-in-law, Esther Morris.
The family will greet friends Sunday, April 6, 2025 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home 5400 SW 9th Street.
