Richard "Dick" V. Weigel
February 22, 1939 — July 31, 2024
Richard “Dick” Vernon Weigel, age 85, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
Dick was born February 22, 1939, in Des Moines, Iowa to Charles Vincent Weigel and Cora Elizabeth (Robinette) Weigel. He has been a resident of the Des Moines area for most of his life with the exception of some time spent in Elston, Iowa. He made his living in the construction trade and was the owner/operator of Weigel Excavating and Grading, working alongside his wife, Norma for 35 years.
He loved being outdoors, mowing, excavating, anything that would allow him to “play in the dirt”. He enjoyed attending water aerobics classes at the YMCA, and more recently had taken up the hobbies of camping and fishing.
He is survived by his children, Robin Sundell, Teresa Wolf, Randy Weigel, and Missy Huddleson; brothers, Tom Weigel and Dan Weigel; sister, Kathy Baker; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean (Speck) Weigel; three infant children; brothers, Paul and Charlie Weigel; and sister, Carol Wolfe.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 5, 2024, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2024, also at Hamilton’s, and will conclude with burial at Elkhart Cemetery. For those unable to attend the service in person, it will be livestreamed below the day of the service.

Missy and Billy : I know your grandpa was a huge part of both your lives. He leaves here with so many wonderful memories for the both of you and some for us all. Feel bless that he is with his love now, and your grandma is happy to welcome him on her Birthday. He took very good care of you, and you took the best care of him. You have two beautiful Angel’s watching over you. We love you❤️🕊️
