Robert Joseph Renteria

Robert Joseph Renteria, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Karen Acres in Urbandale.

Robert was born September 14, 1939, in Jackson, Minnesota to Roberto and Juanita Renteria. He lived most of his life in the Des Moines area. He was a truck driver for UPS for over 30 years, which he greatly enjoyed, retiring in 2005. He served in the Army Reserves. He married Phyllis Jeanne Kibbe on May 27, 1960.

He was very handy and enjoyed keeping busy with projects or working in his yard. He was a skilled upholsterer and often made gifts for his family. In his younger years he liked camping. Robert loved his pets, especially his dogs. He loved to tease and could make everyone feel like they were his “favorite”. His sense of humor and loving nature will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his siblings, sisters-in-law, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis and his parents.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in loving memory of Robert.
