Service Details

Rose C. (Aiello) Pigneri passed away on September 8, 2023, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Kavanaugh House at the age of 87. She was born on October 9, 1935, in Oelwein, Iowa to Antonio and Margherita (Scalise) Aiello. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1953. She and her husband, Tony Pigneri, married in 1955 and raised their family in their south-side home. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Altar and Rosary Society for many years.

In May 2020, Rose moved into assisted living at Edencrest at Riverwoods. There she made new friends and enjoyed many crafts and putting puzzles together. Friendly card and bingo games cultivated meaningful friendships. After the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic lifted she joyfully attended Mass and received Communion once again at the facility. Rose loved Jesus Christ, the Lord, and the Blessed Virgin Mary. She enjoyed teaching and discussing the Bible with others. She was always patient with others and never materialistic. She enjoyed thrift shopping, watching television, praying, and attending her grandkids celebrations. “I love you, God bless you” was how she ended phone calls and voicemails.

Rose is survived by her children, Rocco (Ann) Pigneri, Anthony (Mary Beth) Pigneri, Tom Pigneri, Margaret (Tim) Carson, Steve (Molly) Pigneri and Frank Pigneri; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Ann Aiello; sister-in-law, Sue Aiello, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Tony Pigneri; her parents; sister, Mary Aiello; and brother, Sam Aiello.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street with a rosary to begin at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the Pigneri family requests donations be directed to the St. Anthony Parish Foundation or EWTN in loving memory of Rose.

The family is grateful for the supportive care team at Kavanaugh House, Mission Cancer & Blood, and Edencrest staff and friends.
