Ronald L. Livermore
September 22, 1943 — August 19, 2024
Ronald L. Livermore
Ankeny
I was born on September 22, 1943, in rural Plymouth County, Iowa, to Clarence and Eleanor Livermore. I passed away Monday, August 19, 2024, at my home in Ankeny.
I grew up and attended school in Moville, Iowa. I graduated from Moville High School in 1961. I received my Bachelor of Science in Education from Weber State College, Ogden, Utah in 1967. My professional teaching career of three years began in the fall of 1967 in LeMars, Iowa. In 1970, I accepted a position with the Iowa State Education Association. My nearly thirty-three year career with ISEA included ten plus years working in combination in the Human Relations, Membership, Student ISEA, Leadership, and Professional Development programs. The final twenty-three years, I served as an Educational Lobbyist for the Association. I was very thankful for the rewards from working for the members of public education who displayed outstanding devotion to education. Their work ethic was the driving force in my personal and professional life!
I am survived by the “love of my life”, my wife, Joni Gustason Livermore. We were married on June 4, 1988. Our marriage of 36 years was a perfect union of two people who truly shared every minute of their married life as one. Our marriage was enhanced by our five children and their families including Scott (Jennifer) Livermore of Muscatine and their children, Jordyn, Taylor, and Jackson; Doug (Jana) Livermore of Houston and their children, Erin (Austin), Griffen, and Megan; Ann (Bob) Bonewitz of Polk City and their children, Eric, Courtney, and Danielle; Michelle (Justin) Schlicher of Ankeny and their daughters, Sawyer and Sullivan; and Jamie (Stephfon) Johnson of Ankeny and their son, Xander.
Also surviving is my brother, Dan (Mary) Livermore of Moville, Iowa. I was preceded in death by my parents, Clarence and Eleanor Livermore, sister and brother-in-law, Vicki and Bob Manker, and infant brother, Jackie Eugene, all of Moville, Iowa.
Services will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024. A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m., with a luncheon to follow, at Jester Park Lodge, 12130 NW 128th St., Granger, IA 50109. Interment will take place after at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make any memorials to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, 5452 NE 22nd St., Des Moines, IA 50313.

Ron was a class guy who represented the best interests of Iowa's public educators. I enjoyed the times I shared with him while I served on the ISEA Executive Board from Mississippi Bend Uni-Serv. Joni, I am sorry I can't extend my condolences in person to you on the 9th as my wife and I are taking a trip out of the country. Please know that I am thinking of you as you grieve your loss but also sharing the joy in celebrating Ron's great legacy. May the Peace of Christ be with you and your family.

My condolences to Ron's family and friends. He was, as they say, one of the good guys. We were long time buddies and I'll cherish that friendship. Rest peacefully, partner.

Ron Livermore was a friend, a colleague, and a mentor. Educators in Iowa owe him a huge thank you. He worked for their protection and rights every day. He was both calm and tough and that makes a tremendous advocate. He was.
Ron will be missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and educators. I am thankful for having known and worked with this outstanding person.
