Romona K. Foster, age 74, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, after a courageous battle with myelofibrosis.

Romona was born July 21, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa to Donald E. and Marjorie L. (Slight) Johnston. She was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. Romona was a very simple gal. She worked as a bartender for Sunrise Tap for over 20 years until she retired in 2000. After retirement, she enjoyed doing puzzles, and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids. Romona loved going camping with her late husband, Bill, until his health prevented it. Her greatest love outside of her family was Elvis Presley!

Romona is survived by her children, Tana Sprague (Kelly), Bobbie Foster, Tom Foster IV (Clover), Billie Petry, Beth Ann Palmer (Mike), and Nikki Meyers (David); 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Jo Ann Anderson; and many nieces, nephews, other extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas W. “Bill” Foster III; daughter, Tammie Parisho; grandchildren, James Prine V and Toni Foster; parents, Donald and Marjorie Johnston; her brother, Tom Johnston; and sister Jackie Von Derhyde.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 26, 2024, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Cremation will take place after the service. Family graveside service will be held at a later date.
