Ronald D. Current

March 20, 1962 — September 27, 2023

Service Details

Ronald Duane Current was born March 20, 1962, in Des Moines, Iowa to Norman and Opal Current. He passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Iowa Methodist Hospital from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Growing up in “the hood” of Valley High Manor, Ron graduated from East High School and attended DMACC. He was a small, skinny kid, being frequently picked on. Determined to put those days behind, he began lifting weights and as a result became successful in winning many weight lifting competitions. Under the tutelage of Billy Brown, he took up boxing and entered Golden Gloves matches. Later, he would enter Iowa Tough Man competitions. As a light heavyweight, he took second place and later as a heavyweight, Ron won the Iowa Tough Man Contest twice. The first win was relinquished in an unsportsmanlike incident. However, returning at the age of 40 as the “Comeback Kid”, he took home the title.

Ron’s choices were not always the best, but he took the consequences and never blamed another for his own folly. Ron enjoyed the freedom of riding his Harley (calling upon friend, Kenny, when the machine wasn’t running right) and looked forward to the camaraderie competition of playing ping pong at his friend, Al’s. His family and friends were always priority. Ron loved with sincere, unconditional love and was nonjudgmental to a fault. He loved his children and always took time to pop in, making sure his mother was okay. He worked in the family auto sales business and later became a plumber by trade, until an accident caused retirement in 2018.

A memorial service will be held at Oakwood United Methodist Church in Pleasant Hill on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour before. A gathering at Now or Later Restaurant will follow the service. Ron is survived by his mother, Opal; children, Tiffany, Casey, and Luke; grandchildren, Keaton and Everleigh; uncle, Donnie Current who was extra special to him and uncle, Duane Lane; plus all those cousins that he loved, and so many good friends that it would take a full page to list. He joined in eternity his father, Norman and his siblings, Jeffrey and Susan, each in the care of Jesus, until we meet again.
