Quitman S. Sledge

Quitman Sidney Sledge, Shenandoah, IA, passed away peacefully Friday, February 2, 2024.

Sid was born July 8, 1946 to Dee Reece and Mary Elizabeth (Harwood) Sledge in Pontotoc, MS. He moved as a child to Maxwell, IA. Sid graduated from Maxwell High School and lived much of his adult life on the east side of Des Moines before moving to Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah in 2018. He spent most of his professional life as a truck driver and was proud of his time as a volunteer fire fighter and as an EMT. He enjoyed talking with everyone he met on the road and was a friend to many.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Wayne, Dee, Kenneth, and Eldridge; one sister, Corrine; his former wife, Mary; and his parents.

Sid is survived by his brother, Harold; his daughter, Rachele Sledge (Frank Lynott) of Omaha; grandson, Troy (Alexis) Sledge; three great-grandchildren; his son, Michael (Stacee) Sledge of Bellingham, WA and grandchildren, Alexander and CJ.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa with visitation following the service from 10:30 to 12:30 p.m.
