Phillip Speck

Phillip Ralph Speck, 84, passed away on December 25, 2023.
He was born January 18, 1939 in Des Moines Iowa to his parents Ralph and Cerrice Speck. He married the love of his life Marianne and they had two beautiful daughters together. Phil was a very loving father and husband. He called his daughters his angels. Phil enjoyed being outdoors. His family lovingly nicknamed him the “lawn ranger”. He enjoyed staying busy and could always find a new project to start. Phil was a Vietnam Navy veteran and earned a Quilt of Valor in October 2020. He was very active in the American Legion in Stuart. Phil was also a devout Christian and attended Stuart Friends Church. He will be missed for his kind and giving nature.
Phil is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marianne; daughters, Joan (Shawn) Kinnison and Susan (Eric) Ewing; grandchildren, Katie (Terry) Minor, Phillip (Ann) Kinnison, Emily (John Kirkpatrick) Ewing, Abby (Hunter) Crannell, and Taylor Ewing; five great grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Marilyn Ryun; and his little buddy, Midnight.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue Des Moines, Iowa. A graveside service will take place the following day beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, One Northeast 60th Avenue Des Moines, Iowa.

Dear Marianne, Joan, and Susan,
I'm so very sorry for your loss. I couldn't make it to the visitation tonight. I have many good memories spending time with your family from when I was in marching band.

I'm so very sorry about Phil. He was such a kind, understanding Christian man. Phil will certainly be missed. I pray God can help all if you find peace and enjoy the memories you have.
