Paul Erick Heuss

Paul Erick Heuss, 87, went to be with the Lord on January 10, 2024, with his family gathered around him.
Paul was a gentle, wise and peace-loving soul who loved his Lord and Savior, family and friends. He had a contagious warm smile, a quick wit, and enjoyed visiting with anyone. Paul enjoyed sports (especially track and field), photography, fishing, biking, and spending a lot of time with his family.
Paul was born on March 8th, 1936, in Manning, Iowa to Paul and Jeannette Heuss. He was the oldest of five children. After graduating from Audubon High School, he started working at a printing company in Audubon. He moved soon after to Des Moines and started working at Montgomery Ward. Paul then joined the U.S. Navy. While serving in the Navy, Paul married the love of his life, Gail Louise Schrader, on April 18th, 1959, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua Iowa. After serving in the Navy, Paul and Gail made their home in Des Moines, Iowa. He then joined Commercial Printing (which eventually became Downey Printing) and worked for 38 years in the Des Moines area before retiring in 1998. While working at Commercial Printing, Paul earned his Associate degree from DMACC. After retirement, Paul pursued his passion of real estate development, building several homes and townhomes in the Central Iowa area.
Paul and Gail were married for over 64 years and raised three children, including a son Tim, and daughters Cindy, and Cathy. Paul was also an active member of Creekside Church and served in various capacities.
Paul is survived by his wife Gail; son, Tim (Rita) Heuss of Johnston IA, and daughters, Cindy (Jerry) Quick of Johnston IA, and Cathy (Rob) Robison of Johnston IA; seven grandchildren, Robbie (Rachel) Robison of Johnston IA, Stephanie (Cory) Goos of Holly Springs NC, Joel (Cassie) Quick of Minnetonka MN, Jay (Stacy) Quick of Urbandale IA, Ashley (Dan) Locker of Orange City IA, Andrew Heuss of Minnetonka MN, Asher Heuss of West Des Moines IA, and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters and one brother, Joan Dingwall of Milwaukie OR, Grace Dietz of Wausau WI, Judi Heuss of Venice, FL, Tom (Peggy) Heuss of Des Moines IA; in-laws, Diane Schrader of Exira IA, Jerry (Judy) Schrader of Elk Horn IA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Jeannette Heuss, in-laws, John and Gloria Schrader of Exira IA, Duane Schrader of Exira IA, John Dingwall of Oregon City OR, Gus Dietz of Fredericksburg TX, and a great-granddaughter Lydia Locker.
A visitation will be held from 4-6 pm on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Creekside Church, 2743 82nd Place in Urbandale. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 am on January 20, 2024 at Creekside Church with lunch to follow. A burial service will be held at 12:30 pm on Monday, January 22nd at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.
Memorial contributions can be made to Creekside Church.

Oh Gail. So sorry to see Paul's passing. I always thought he was one of a kind. You guys helped us so much while living in our townhome. Lee died last June and I'm still adjusting.

Rich and I are so deeply sorry for your loss. Rich and I thought the world of you and Paul. When you sold your Arizona home, we felt the loss deeply. Paul was a wonderful and kind soul and he will be missed.
