Patrick Mambu

Patrick Mambu, 71, passed away Friday, February 7, 2025 at Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa.
Patrick was born November 7, 1953 to Robert and Reginia Mambu in Moyamba, Sierra Leone. He came to the United States as a young man seeking better opportunities and an education. Patrick valued education and worked hard to achieve his goals. He received his Bachelor Degree from Iowa State University and received his Masters of Arts and Teaching Degree from Drake University. Patrick was employed by the Des Moines Public Schools where he taught World History and Psychology. “Education is the key” was a motto that Patrick was fond of saying to his family and students. He retired from Roosevelt High School.
In his spare time, Patrick enjoyed cooking, especially African dishes, parties, and socializing with his family and friends.
Left to mourn his loss are his daughter, Sunnah Mambu; son, Joseph Mambu; grandchildren, Gbetuwa Johnson and Dehwon Freeman; brother, Joseph Mambu; stepdaughters, Erin Boyd, Tamara Boyd, and Andrea Bocook; sister, Janet Mambu; niece, Masery Mambu; great-niece, Vanessa; and great-grandchildren Kaden Johnson, Mikael Johnson, and Joachim Johnson; and a host of other family and friends.
Patrick was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Vickie Mambu.
Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA with visitation on Friday, March 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. and the funeral service on Saturday, March 15 at 12:00 p.m. Patrick will be cremated following the service.
