Patricia Ann Garsh

Patricia Ann Garsh, age 83, passed away at Cedar Ridge Village on Thursday, June 20, 2024.
Patricia was born the daughter of Harold and Myrtle (Rathbun) Davenport on May 26, 1941, in Spring Valley, Minnesota. She grew up in Minnesota and became a nurse there. She married Eugene on June 12, 1965, and they were married for 57 years until he died in 2023. Patricia and Eugene raised their family and were proud Southsiders until they moved to Clive in 2017. She worked for the State of Iowa as a Clerk Specialist for 15 years. She was a member of the South Des Moines Lions Club.
She loved to bake, especially at Christmas time, and enjoyed gardening and watching butterflies. She enjoyed Friday night potlucks with her lifelong friends. She was the most generous person, with a kind heart, and she loved volunteering. She volunteered at Iowa Workforce for a year and a half.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Debbie Mallory, Sandy Hockett, and Lisa (Jason) Houghton; grandchildren, Alyssa (Dusty Willey) Mallory, Jessicah Mallory, Lucas Mallory, Lexi Hockett, Emma Hockett, and Levi Hockett; great-grandchildren, Jamesyn Johnson and Jareyn Johnson; older sister, Mary Conger; sisters-in-law, Barbara (John) Ratcliffe and Debi Garsh; brother-in-law, Rolland Dockham; a host of nieces and nephews; and her lifelong friends, Josephine DeFrancisco, Donna Brown, and Dwayne Weuve.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; parents; sister, Georgia “Gigi” Dockham; nephew, Daniel Dockham; and her lifelong friends, Jack and Georgia Renn, and Mary Lou Weuve.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with funeral service to begin at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Christ Lutheran Church, 6411 SE 5th Street, Des Moines. For those unable to attend the service in person, there will be a livestream available below the day of the service. Interment will take place on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

I am very sad to hear of Pat’s passing. Pat and Gene had been part of my life as long as I can remember, and it was always nice to be in Des Moines on a Friday when the potluck group was meeting. I wil miss her.
