Nancy June Kolz

Nancy J. Kolz, 92, passed away January 31, 2024 at Walnut Ridge Care Center. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Family will greet friends following the service.

Nancy was born June 20, 1931 in Lake Mills, IA to Jeanette (Moe) and Arthur Bjelland. She graduated from Lake Mills High School where she was a Drum Majorette, Miss Lake Mills, and the Winnebago County Dairy Queen. She then attended Nursing School at Broadlawns and Drake University for her Bachelor’s in Nursing degree. Nancy worked as a Registered Nurse for the Iowa Veterans Hospital in coronary care for 25 years until her retirement in 1994.

In her free time, Nancy was very social and involved. She was active in the church choir, aerobics classes, and Canasta with her friends. In earlier years, she was PTA President and a Camp Fire Leader. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting and gardening.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Cindy (Bill) Fleischacker, Kimberly White, Richard (Michele) Kolz; and grandchildren, Brady (Tiffany), Colton, Kylie and Nick (Azra). Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; and her sister, Barbara Helgeson.
