Norma Jean Thomas

Norma Jean Thomas, age 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

Norma was born July 2, 1931, in Centerville, Iowa to Lowell and Garnett (Taylor) Young. Norma loved her family above all else. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and attending their games and activities. She was a great cook and liked listening music, especially classic country.

She is survived by her daughter, Roxanne Johnson (Mike); grandchildren, David Johnson (Molly), Daniel Johnson, and Melinda McClain (James); and great-grandchildren, Amelia, Paislee, EmmyLou, Abram, Maia, and Malaina.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband of almost 54 years, Kenneth Thomas; son, Rick Thomas; and her parents.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. There will be a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Elm Grove Cemetery in Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to The Bridges at Ankeny for their kind care of Norma.
