Norma Jean Terry
December 11, 1952 — February 17, 2025
Norma Jean Terry, age 72, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, February 17, 2025.
Norma was born December 11, 1952, in Des Moines, Iowa to Charles and Betty (VanderMark) Perry. She graduated from North High School and went on to work as a beautician for the majority of her career. Norma also did child care with the school district through Metro Kids for 25 years, caring for other people’s children like they were her own.
Two words that describe Norma are Faith and Family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who leaves a lasting legacy of compassion and unconditional love. She could light up any room she entered with her smile and her laughter. Always willing to lend a listening ear, her eternal optimism left you feeling encouraged and loved. Her kindness made you feel as if you had been friends for years, even having just met.
Norma’s faith was a cornerstone in her life and it was her constant guiding force and evident in everything she did. She was a longtime member of Heritage Assembly of God Church.
She will be forever loved and missed by her beloved husband of 49 years, David; children, Brett (Jennifer) Terry, Olivia (Matthew) Hutchinson, and Rachel (Brian) McGilvra; grandchildren, Hannah (Matthew) Klapp, Elizabeth (Ryan) Van Donselaar, Sarah Terry, Charles Hutchinson, and Hunter Hutchinson; great-grandchildren, Ava, Asa, and Aaron; sister-in-law, Susan Perry; and a host of extended family and many loving friends.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Betty Perry; and her brothers, Donnie (Becky) Perry and Everett “Buck” Perry.
Funeral service will 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Heritage Assembly of God, 5051 NE 5th Street, Des Moines, IA 50313. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church. Please stay following the service for a meal.
