Nathan C. Sumers
December 26, 1945 — November 05, 2023
Nathan Clair Sumers, age 77, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines due to complications of a stroke.
Nathan was born December 26, 1945, to Russell and Arvena (Seaton) Sumers. After graduating high school, he attended the University of Iowa for some time, until he followed his passion of becoming an electrician and a member of IBEW. He was a jack of all trades and Mr. Fix-It. He was incredibly hard working and was always keeping busy. He never stopped looking for projects to do and would never turn down a project, especially if it would help someone else. Nathan and his cousins remodeled his mother’s home in What Cheer from top to bottom, and even when he wasn’t at the jobsite, he was their foreman by phone.
Nathan always had a joke or a good story ready. He loved to laugh and was always socializing with family and friends. He was a family man devoted to his wife, daughters, and grandkids. He looked like Santa Claus and had a personality to match. He was a giving man to everyone around him and loved family gatherings.
He is survived by his four daughters, Tracy (Mark) Dunham, April Lackey Gutierrez, Tamara Sumers, and Teresa Gordon; six grandchildren, Lacee, Justin, Joey, Clint, Daniel, and Zach; one great-grandchild, CJ; and other extended family and friends.
Nathan was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Alinda and Rebecca; the mother of his children, Barbara Lander Sumers; and his wife, Joy Sumers.
There will be a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Holland-Coble Funeral Home, 101 S Barnes Street, What Cheer, IA 50268. Burial will follow at Millersburg Cemetery. There will be a luncheon at Millersburg United Methodist Church, 473 Jefferson Street, Millersburg, IA 52308 after the burial.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Nathan.
