Myron Seigler Webber

Myron Seigler Webber, 89, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Harmony Care Center in West Des Moines.

Myron was born August 29, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa to Thelma (Franklin) and Leslie Ward Webber. At the age of 2 or 3, his parents noticed a “condition” and Myron was examined by many doctors. According to a journal written by Myron’s father, “some (doctor’s) recommended that Myron be placed in the state hospital for retarded children.” Myron’s mother would not stand for this and insisted that Myron would be all right. He was enrolled in a Des Moines school where he attended until the age of 14. At that time, the school board said they no longer had a place for Myron. This was in 1949. Myron’s father left his job at Employers Mutual to work delivering cream and a variety of other jobs so Myron could come to work with him. The duo worked together until 1968 when Ward once again took an office job and Myron stayed at home to help his mother, who by then was experiencing failing health. Ward ended the journal telling Myron, “I hope you will always remember your Mother as the best, full of love for you, never losing faith with God that you are perfect.”

After the death of his parents, Myron lived in group homes through Link Associates and later lived a short time at Harmony Care Center. He always had someone special watching over him, the last being Amy McFadden and her family.

Myron will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens with his parents.
