Melissa Ann Hunt
October 19, 1968 — May 08, 2026
Melissa Ann Hunt, 57 of Johnston, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 8, 2026. Melissa was born October 19,1968, to Larry and Mariann (Till) Cotter in Grundy Center, Iowa. She married the love of her life, Greg Hunt, on August 26, 2010. Per her wishes, Melissa will have a private family burial at a later date.
Melissa worked for Principal Financial Group for almost 31 years as a Client Service Manager servicing small to midsize retirement clients. She provided her clients with excellent customer service with her knowledge regarding retirement plans and listening to their needs.
Melissa was an avid Chicago Bears fan and she and Greg would enjoy garage sitting while watching the games and playing with their beloved dog, Maggie. She will be remembered as the family organizer especially during her favorite holidays, Christmas and St. Patrick’s Day. Her quick Irish wit was well known by those who knew her best. Melissa was very talented with crafts and many of us have a handmade door wreath handcrafted by her, just for that special occasion. She could make anything look spectacular with a few supplies and a glue gun. She and Greg enjoyed traveling to golf destinations and she cherished her time with her nephew, Cael and nieces, Maura and Teagan.
Survivors include her husband, Greg Hunt; mother, Ann (Till) Berger; father, Larry (Jeanne) Cotter; sister, Jacki Cotter (fiancée Scott Madsen); brother, Shane (Amber) Cotter; step-sister, Amy Osmond; mother and father-in-law, Judy and Walt DesPlanque; nieces, Maura Trierweiler and Teagan Cotter; and nephew, Cael Cotter.
Melissa is preceded in death by her grandparents, Jack and Grace Cotter and Joe and Mary Till; and her dear niece, Elizabeth Trierweiler.
Donations may be directed to the family toward a memorial fund that has been established in Melissa’s memory.
